Health Ministry's official count of coronavirus cases saw a sharp spike in the past 24 hours.

As per the update at 8 am today, total cases are now at 1,12,359. Casualties are currently at 3,435, and the number of the cured/discharged at 45,300.

Maharashtra, India's coronavirus hotbed, reported more than 2,000 cases for the fourth day on run. Mumbai continued to be the biggest contributor with 60% of these cases. The state's total cases have now neared 40,000, accounting for almost 40% of the country’s cumulative tally.


Tamil Nadu crossed the 13,000-mark, taking the state tally to 13,191 — second highest in India after Maharashtra. Gujarat, at 12,537, has the third most cases in the country.
