India committed to protect Intellectual Property Rights: PM Narendra Modi

LONDON: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured British business honchos that India is committed to protect Intellectual Property Rights of all innovators and entrepreneurs and that a comphrehensive National IPR policy is being finalised.

His comments came at a time when several countries and multinational corporations want India to bring its patent laws at par with global standards.

Analysts beleive that a comprehensive IPR policy would help the government pull in investor into its 'Make in India' initiative.

"I am personally convinced and want to assure you that India is committed to protect Intellectual Property Rights of all innovators and entrepreneurs," he said addressing the Business Forum here.

He said the government has taken several initiatives for transparency and online processing in IP administration.

"A comprehensive National IPR policy is being finalized," he said.

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had last month said a national IPR policy will soon be taken to the Cabinet for approval.
