KATHMANDU: Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today said India is committed to provide welfare incentives to former Gorkha soldiers of Nepal at par with ex-Indian army personnel.

Gen Singh, the third Army chief who was either commissioned into or associated with the Brigade of Gorkhas, praised the contributions of Gorkha soldiers of Nepal in the Indian military service.

"We are ready to provide medical facilities to hundreds of ex-servicemen residing in Nepal," he said.

He is leading a six-member delegation to Nepal on an official visit.

Gen Singh is the third Army chief after Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw and Gen G G Bewoor who was either commissioned into or associated with the Brigade of Gorkhas.

He was commissioned to the 4th Battalion of the 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) in June, 1974.
