India-China border issue would be solved amicably: Arunachal Pradesh Governor
ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today said that the India-China border issue would be resolved amicably and the governments of both the neighbouring nations were working hard to find a lasting solution.

"Since 1962 there has been no physical confrontation between the two nations," Sharma told his maiden press conference at Raj Bhawan here.

"China and India have well laid down agreement for maintaining peace and security along the border," he said.

When asked to comment on re-opening of Stilwell Road to connect China with India as well as re-opening of border trade with South East Asian countries as proposed by Chinese premier during his recent visit to India, the governor said that the government would open roads within the parameter of security of the people.

When his attention was drawn on the insurgency problem of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of the state where Naga rebels from neighbouring Nagaland are operating, Sharma said that the Naga issue was complex and it should be resolved considering the aspirations of all affected north eastern states.

"The Centre is initiating peace process with the NSCN and I personally hope that the issue will be resolved amicably," he added.
