India, Bangladesh foreign secretary-level talks on Thursday

Foreign Secretaries of India Shivshankar Menon and his Bangladesh counterpart Mohd Touhid Hossain are scheduled to meet in New Delhi on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Foreign Secretaries of India and Bangladesh are scheduled to meet here on Thursday. The day-long talks will be held between Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and his counterpart Mohd Touhid Hossain.

Menon is expected to take up the issue of Bangladesh being used by terrorists as a base or route to reach here and carry out anti-India activities. During the previous meeting in Dhaka, the two sides agreed to enhance security cooperation, especially information sharing to combat terrorism, crimes and insurgency in the common interest of peace and security.

Besides, they will also discuss about state security, boarder management, water resources, including sharing of common river waters, economic and trade related issues, cooperation in agriculture, science and technology. India will demand transit facility from Bangladesh at the meeting. India has been demanding transit facility to reach its seven north-eastern states, separated by Bangladesh.
