India against corruption: Rs one lakh award for Anna Hazare
Impressed by Anna Hazare's agitation for a strong Lokpal Bill, a retired railwayman on Tuesday announced an award of Rupess one lakh to the veteran Gandhian for agitating for a 'good public cause.'
''My wife Uma and I have decided that we'll award Rs one lakh every year to someone who is championing a good public cause. We have decided to give the first award to Anna Hazare,'' 64-year-old Subhas Sarkar, who retired as Chief Commercial Manager (General) of the South Eastern Railway, told media.
Stating that the award will be in memory of his son Saptarshi who died on October 19 last year under tragic circumstances, Sarkar said "we'll contact Anna to find out where it will be convenient for him to accept the award."
A resident of the temple town of Dakshineswar in the northern suburb of the metropolis, Sarkar had contested as an Independent candidate from Ranaghat North-East seat during the assembly elections this year.
