India 69th most charitable country

India has been ranked at 69 in the 2013-2014 report launched in the capital today, climbing 24 places in the global league ranking countries.

NEW DELHI: India ranks 69 among 135 countries in terms of generosity and spending on charity, according to a report.

United States and Myanmar were the most generous countries in the world, followed by Canada, Ireland and New Zealand, as per the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) India report.

India has been ranked at 69 in the 2013-2014 report launched in the capital today, climbing 24 places in the global league ranking countries.

"The report shows an unprecedented growth in Indian generosity in recent years. It is encouraging to see that as our economy develops, people are increasingly using their resources to tackle the needs of others.

"With charities making more use of technology, people definitely seem to be responding more quickly to appeals for help and natural disasters around the country," CAF India CEO Meenakshi Batra said.

People have started becoming aware about the benefits of strategic giving, at least people who have some disposable income, she said.
