Increase number of Assembly seats in Telangana region to 153: Marri Sashidhar Reddy

HYDERABAD: National Disaster Management Authority vice-chairman and MLA Marri Sashidhar Reddy today sought an increase in the number of Assembly seats in Telangana region to 153 after the creation of the new state.

Telangana region currently has 119 constituencies in the 294-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

"The number of Assembly seats should be increased by 34 to ensure political stability. Each of the 17 Lok Sabha segments should have nine Assembly seats," Sashidhar Reddy said.

Reddy organised a meeting here this evening with Congress leaders from the region over the issue and they are scheduled to meet again tomorrow to hold further discussion.

They would meet the Congress high command and the government authorities on Monday to put forth the demand.
