New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi targeted the Modi government and the BJP during an interactive session at a Cambridge event, saying the dispensation has captured most institutions and allowed concentration of wealth in the hands of a few. He said Hindu nationalism has nothing to do with Hinduism and the BJP government does not have an inclusive approach to the diverse Indian society.

Asked how the Congress plans to fight "the forces of Hindu nationalism", Gandhi said he did not agree with the term 'Hindu nationalism' itself, according to reports from the UK. "There is nothing Hindu about it and actually there's nothing nationalist about it. I think you'll have to think of a new name for them but they are certainly not Hindu. I have studied Hinduism in enough detail to tell you there's absolutely nothing Hindu about wanting to murder people and beat people up," he said.

Gandhi also accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of going against the idea of India. "When you play the politics of polarisation, when you isolate and demonise 200 million people, you are doing something extremely dangerous," he reportedly said. "I am sure there are good things the Prime Minister has done, but for me attacking the idea of India is unacceptable."
