Rashid entered the House, greeted members, and took a back-row seat. During zero hour, he called for a probe into the recent killings of two Kashmir civilians, saying, "Our blood is not cheap." He also urged the construction of a tunnel for better road access in remote areas of his constituency.
Rashid, a key figure in the valley's complex politics, gained prominence after his newly formed MIP defeated veteran leaders Omar Abdullah (JKNC) and Sajjad Gani Lone (JKPC) in the Baramulla Lok Sabha race. However, his party performed poorly in the subsequent J&K assembly elections, amid allegations from political rivals that it was indirectly backed by the establishment.
Hearing on feb 24
In another development, the Delhi HC on Tuesday listed for hearing on February 24 a plea by Rashid on the issue of lack of a forum to decide his bail plea in a terror funding case.
