MUMBAI: Claiming that Pakistani President Parvez Musharraf has failed on all fronts, cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan on Friday demanded his resignation in the wake of Ms Bhutto’s assassination. Under the present situation elections cannot be held in Pakistan and that it should be held only after forming a caretaker government with consensus of all political parties and appointment of an independent Election Commission, he said.

Mr Khan, who is the founder of political party Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf, demanded an independent inquiry into Benazir’s assassination and reinstatement of judiciary in the country. Mr Khan’s press conference in Mumbai coincided with Benazir’s last rites in Larkana. He accused President Musharraf of not providing enough security to Benazir Bhutto in spite of the latter publicly expressing her fear of being targeted by extremist elements and sections within the administration.
