There is growing clamour in Nagaland for a solution to several-decade-old Naga problem before election.
There is growing clamour in Nagaland for a solution to several-decade-old Naga problem before election.
NSCN-IM in a statement stated, "The Nagas have sincerely come very close for political solution appreciating the steps taken by the Government in seeking political solution and leaving aside military solution. Subsequently, after nearly 5 years of political negotiation in 2002 the Government of India officially recognized the unique history and situation of the Nagas and on August 3, 2015 the Framework Agreement was signed between the NSCN and the government.”
The outfit added, "We sincerely appreciate the stand and wish of the Naga people for an early political solution and no election. The decision taken by the Election Commission of India to hold election is bound to undermine the progress of the ongoing talks between the NSCN and the Government of India and become a serious obstacle towards finding an early political solution."
Meanwhile, Assam police is looking out for three people in Dima Hasao district who they say had attempted to torch the office of Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at district headquarters Haflong on Monday.
Police recovered CCTV images from cameras installed outside the office.
Dima Hasao has been witnessing protests following rumours that the hill district will be satellite area of Nagas under the framework agreement. Several organisations are staging protests demanding disclosure of the contents of framework agreement.
