Implementation of 'Project Tiger' unsatisfactory: CAG

BANGALORE: The implementation of 'Project Tiger' envisaged for sustaining a viable tiger population in Karnataka is "unsatisfactory" due to deficiencies in planning and inadequate release of funds, Comptroller and Auditor General of India (Civil) has concluded.
Shortage of frontline protection staff, lack of training in use of sophisticated fire arms and their supply and deficient communication network in the Tiger Reserves rendered the protection measures largely ineffective, the CAG pointed out in its report, which was tabled on the floor of the state assembly on Tuesday.
Project Tiger, a centrally sponsored scheme, is under implementation in Bandipur National Park, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Rajiv Gandhi (Nagarahole) National Park.
