IMD warns of thunderstorm in Delhi and adjoining states

A severe weather warning has been issued for the western Himalayan region of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for Sunday and Monday.

Rainfall activity will start in the western Himalayan region from Saturday. It will see intense weather activity on 13th and 14th, along with severe thunderstorm and hailstorm.
NEW DELHI: The weather office on Friday warned of moderate thunderstorm with gusty winds in Delhi and adjoining states beginning Sunday owing to a western disturbance, is a weather system often associated with rainfall in the northern part of the country.

"As of now, we have issued warning for moderate thunderstorm activity over the northwestern plains for May 13 and 14. There may be chances of squally weather in the region. But we will update the forecast once these conditions appear," said K Sathi Devi, head of national weather forecasting centre at India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A severe weather warning has been issued for the western Himalayan region of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for Sunday and Monday.


“Rainfall activity will start in the western Himalayan region from Saturday. It will see intense weather activity on 13th and 14th, along with severe thunderstorm and hailstorm,” Devi said. Chances of squally weather may develop in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, UP, but the conditions are not clear as yet.
