NEW DELHI: India’s weather office plans to tie up with FM radio stations to give timely fog alerts in a bid to reduce disruption of business and normal life in the north Indian states during winter.

Apart from notifying road, rail and air travelers, the India Meteorological Department said it will provide sector-specific information to power utility companies and transport entities including the railways.

“Radio is the best media to disseminate news and alerts on fog with fresh alerts after every three hours. We will soon announce it,” said Anand Kumar Sharma, deputy director general of meteorology at IMD. He said people want to know whether fog will take place in next 24 hours, how intense it will be and when it will start and dissipate.
