Oxford Dictionaries responds to Rahul Gandhi's new word 'Modilie', says it doesn't exist

In a big embarrassment to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Oxford Dictionaries has clarified that the word "Modilie", introduced by Rahul to describe Prime Minister Narendra Modi, doesn't exist in its dictionaries.

A day after Congress president tweeted a screenshot showing 'Modilie' as a word in an online dictionary appeared to be Oxford, the one of the world's most recognised English language dictionaries through its verified Twitter account said there is no such word in any of its dictionaries.

"We can confirm that the image showing the entry 'Modilie' is fake and does not exist in any of our Oxford Dictionaries," it said.



However, Gandhi continued to target the Prime Minister and tweeted on Thursday that "Modilie" is the new word that has become popular worldwide.

Rahul claimed that the new word has been formed by a combination of the words 'Modi' and 'lie'.

"Now there's even a website that catalogues the best Modilies," he said, sharing the address of the website listing alleged lies of Modi since he came to office in 2014.

On Wednesday, he had tweeted a screen shot of an online dictionary, saying, "There's a new word in the English Dictionary. Attached is a snapshot of the entry."

The layout of the image appeared similar to Oxford Dictionaries' website.

The BJP used the tweet of Oxford Dictionaries to take a dig at is rival.

"Slapped," tweeted BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya.
