IMA members protest against dissolution of MCI

The protesters alleged that the Clinical Establishment Act 2010 will lead to licence raj and will have negative impact on the vibrant health sector.

NOIDA: Members of the Indian Medical Association ( IMA) today held a protest here against the dissolution of the Medical Council of India and other regulations with regard to medical education in the country.

The members also demanded that the Government immediately restore the MCI and opposed the proposed introduction of Bachelor of Rural Health Care ( BRMC) graduates in districts hospitals. They alleged that this will produce "half baked practitioners of modern medicine."

The protesters alleged that the Clinical Establishment (Regulation and Registration) Act 2010 will lead to licence raj and will have negative impact on the vibrant health sector.

"If few persons are corrupt then action against the concerned person should be taken and not dissolve the organisation. On this basis when corrupt officers are caught then whole department or government should resign," the association said in a release.

Government had dissolved the MCI in May after its chief Ketan Desai was arrested in a corruption case.
