IIM Shillong organized Manthan finance and consulting conclave

GUWAHATI: IIM Shillong organised Manthan 2017, the first finance and consulting conclave which discussed the present financial sector of the country.

The two-day conclave which ended on Sunday discussed a plethora of contemporary issues to explore the countless possibilities that lie within the ambit of the financial sector and chart out a course for the future of the world of Finance. The issues were discussed keeping in mind the vast untapped potential of north-east India.

Lakshmi Iyer, CIO, Fixed Income & Head-Products, Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, initiated the discussion by talking about the NPA malaise in India.

Talking about the importance of data for money managers, Iyer said, “If you torture data, it can confess to anything”.

A panel discussion moderated by esteemed faculty of IIM Shillong saw Bekxy Kuriakose, Head Fixed Income, Principal PNB Asset Management Co Pvt Ltd, along with Lakshmi Iyer discuss asset management, the wider problems plaguing the banking sector, trends defining the Mutual Fund Space, and the role of due diligence in cutting through the corporate dressing.

Sarat Chandra Dhal, Director, Economic Policy Research, Reserve Bank of India talked about the challenges of financial inclusion in the North East. Discussing the problems in the banking sector, Dhal said, “People need to build a culture to pay back debts”.

Pramod Kasat, Country Head, IndusInd Bank and Vikas Sarda discussed acquisitions and alliances, impact of technology, valuation of start-ups by seed funders, all the while citing several examples from today’s Indian and Global scenarios.
