IFFI-04: Mauvin's case against Parrikar referred to CBI

Goa government has referred a case against former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, pertaining to infrastructure creation for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2004, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

PANAJI: Goa government has referred a case against former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, pertaining to infrastructure creation for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2004, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Former Power Minister Mauvin Godinho had filed a police complaint against Parrikar alleging his involvement in causing huge losses to the state exchequer during IFFI 2004. The case was based on the observations made in a report by the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG).

"A similar case was pending against him (Parrikar) with the CBI... so the state government decided that this case should also be given to the same agency", Goa Chief Secretary J P Singh told the media.

"There is nothing new in this case", Singh said stating that Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane has approved handing over the case to CBI.

Earlier, the state government, on its own, had filed a case against Parrikar with similar charges, which is being investigated by CBI.

In that case, filed a year back, the government had charged Parrikar of causing loss to state exchequer while creating infrastructure for IFFI, 2004.
