If you stop the movement, it will grow across country: AAP on youth protests

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday warned the central government against "suppressing" voices of students and young protesters, saying "if you stop the movement, it will grow across the country".

Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai demanded that police should immediately release all student leaders arrested in Patna and Gujarat protesting on NEET exams. There was no immediate response from BJP on the matter.

The remarks come amid raging protests in the capital led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding reforms in the examination system and the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak, among others.

"The central government is trying to suppress the movement by using police and arresting the youth leaders protesting. While on one hand, the BJP government says they want to resolve this by talking but in reality protestors are being arrested in Gujarat," Rai said addressing a press conference.

"If you do this and stop the movement, it will grow across the country. These actions show that BJP government is trying to stop this movement by suppressing their voices," he said.

Rai said the government will soon have to take a decision on how they want to proceed, otherwise it will spread across Gujarat and other states.

The NEET paper leak has snowballed into a major political challenge for the ruling party with protests erupting in many parts of the country, especially the CJP-led protests at Jantar Mantar.

Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday sent his resignation, one of the main demands of the protestors. Police and protestors have clashed at places and many people have been detained across the country.
