Identified 4 sites for dumping building waste: Gurgaon municipal Corporation tells NGT

NEW DELHI: Gurgaon municipality has told the National Green Tribunal it has identified four sites to dump construction and demolition wastes, after the green panel asked it to check "uncontrolled" pollution caused by dust due to heightened construction activities there.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon assured the NGT that that the four sites at Sohna, Pataudi, Badshahpur and Gurgaon city would be properly maintained and rubble collected from the entire Gurgaon district would be effectively dumped there.

The counsel for the municipal corporation also informed a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar that these sites were sufficient for meeting the demand of the construction and demolition (C&D) dumping in Gurgaon.

The green bench was hearing a petition by NGT Bar Association against the unauthorised dumping of construction debris in the city. Gurgaon generates nearly 500-700 tonnes of construction waste per day.

Earlier, a plan to build a recycling plant at Kachara Chowk on Gurgaon-Faridabad Road was shelved after the Tribunal expressed concern over it.

The Tribunal, after taking note of "uncontrolled and high dust emissions", had passed a slew of directions to check air pollution caused by dust emanating from construction sites in the National Capital Region.

It had also directed every builder and owner to put tarpaulin sheets around the areas of construction and said no person including builder and owner would be permitted to throw construction material particularly sand on roads or inside colonies.
