Ice-cream parlour scam stalls Kerala assembly

The case pertains to a sex racket operating out of an ice-cream parlour in Kozhikode in the 1990s, into which the name of Indian Union Muslim League general secretary PK Kunhalikutty was dragged.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day before the Kerala Liberation March, led by opposition leader Oommen Chandy, concludes at the state capital on Wednesday, there appeared to be no respite for the Congress-led opposition United Democratic Front in Kerala, from the infamous ice-cream parlour sex racket case. The case pertains to a sex racket operating out of an ice-cream parlour in Kozhikode in the 1990s, into which the name of Indian Union Muslim League general secretary PK Kunhalikutty was dragged.

Opposition members were enraged when CPM member KK Shylaja brought up the matter in the assembly on Tuesday and referred to Kunhalikutty as an accused in the case. IUML members Abdurahman Randathani and Mohamedunni Haji took strong objection to Shylaja’s remark . Some of the ruling party members came to Shylaja’s defence, leading to a verbal duel and a holdup of proceedings for about half an hour.

Home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the case was not merely a sex racket, and that the government attached all seriousness to the matter considering that the case involved allegations of bribing to change affidavits and influencing the judiciary.
