In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Bollywood actor and politician Kangana Ranaut voiced her strong criticism of OTT platforms, accusing them of promoting content that is violent, explicit, and politically biased while stifling nationalist voices in the case of Netflix's latest series 'IC814: The Kandahar Hijack'.

Ranaut expressed her frustration over what she perceives as a double standard in content regulation.

Notably, the actress' comments come amid the postponement of her film 'Emergency', based on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Kangana has made allegations against Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for stalling its certificate to delay the release of the film.

Meanwhile, the IC 814 series, which shows a Hindu identity of hijackers of the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Delhi, has kicked off a row with a section of viewers objecting to the 'humane' projection of the perpetrators.

"The law of the land allows unimaginable violence and nudity on OTT platforms without any consequence or censorship," Ranaut stated. She alleged that these platforms not only permit but also encourage the distortion of real-life events to further "politically motivated sinister motives." According to Ranaut, there is ample freedom for "communists or leftists across the world" to express what she termed as "anti-national" views.

However, she argued that the same freedom is not extended to those who want to create content celebrating the integrity and unity of India. "As a nationalist, no OTT platform allows us to make films that revolve around the integrity and unity of Bharat," she wrote, suggesting that censorship is selectively applied to suppress patriotic narratives.

Ranaut concluded her post by calling this perceived bias "hugely demotivating and unjust," highlighting her concerns that filmmakers who wish to depict historical facts and promote national unity face disproportionate challenges compared to those with opposing viewpoints.
