IB to probe Lt Col's role in Malegaon bomb attack
With the role of Lt Col Prasad Puroshit in the Malegaon attack coming under the scanner, the government has directed the IB to conduct a parallel investigation into the case.
Union defence minister AK Antony told reporters that the IB, along with the Maharashtra Police, is investigating the role of the serving army personnel. The Maharashtra Police and the IB are investigating the matter. Let us see the result of the investigation.
Army is fully cooperating with the investigation, Mr Antony said. Refusing to state anything further on the Lt Colonels role, Mr Antony said: Two responsible agencies are investigating the case and the Army is fully assisting them. At this stage, I do not want to make any comments. Lt Col Purohit is currently posted at the Army Education Corps School in Panchmarhi in Madhya Pradesh.
The Army had on Thursday confirmed that the officer has been asked to help the ATS in their investigations as he was in touch with some of the suspects.
Reports from Mumbai said brain-mapping and polygraph tests were conducted on Sadhvi. A Nashik Court had permitted the ATS to conduct these psychological tests on Sadhvi.
Meanwhile, with the Sadhvis past involvement with the ABVP embarrassing the BJP, Mr LK Advani said if the Sadhvi was found guilty, she should be punished. Mr Advani went on to say that she has nothing to do with the BJP and if any one from any Sangh outfit found guilty of any crime that person should be brought to book.
