NEW DELHI: The I&B ministry has begun the process of terminating the contract of former National Films Development Corporation chief Nina Lath Gupta, who was sacked in February on grounds of alleged irregularities

According to a top official in the government, the court has given the ministry three days to end the contract with Gupta after her petition to continue as the PSU's chief was quashed. The ministry has also reportedly approached the CBI to conduct a preliminary enquiry into alleged corruption and commercial irregularities under her tenure.

The I&B Ministry had fired Gupta with “immediate effect” for allegedly not following protocol in conducting the government company’s corporate affairs. Official sources had said that she was not even allowed to serve the three-month notice period. Gupta however got a stay against the order removing her and resumed charge within days of her sacking

A top official central official said in a report that that NFDC ‘flouted’ norms of Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) and Electronic Media Advertising (EMA).

According to ministry officials Gupta also allegedly released advertisements to a few private channels, including Sun TV, beyond the 5 per cent limit prescribed in the Electronic Media Policy.
