NEW DELHI: Mr Sanjay Narayen, joint secretary in the civil aviation ministry, has quit government service. An 1976 batch IAS batch officer from the Maharashtra cadre, he put in his papers on Tuesday.
The move comes close on the heels of the resignation of Mr Rajiv Sikri, senior IFS officer who put in his papers after he was superseded by Mr Shiv Shanker Menon for the post of foreign secretary. Mr Rajiv Talwar, an IAS officer, had recently quit to join DLF Group.
Mr Narayen was looking after security and modernisation of airports, including the controversial upgradation of Delhi and Mumbai airports with private participation. It is understood that he was upset over the government’s decision to drop his from the list of IAS officers empanelled for promotion as additional secretary.
Officially, Mr Narayen did not give any reason for quitting. Sources close to him scotched speculations about him joining some private airline.
Officials said civil aviation minister Praful Patel had given the IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre crucial assignments including the Delhi & Mumbai airport modernisation.
