BENGALURU: The Centre on Monday awarded " compulsorily retirement" to a 1981-batch Karnataka-cadre IAS officer MN Vijayakumar as a punishment for flouting civil service conduct rules. The government has slashed his pension benefits to two thirds of his eligibility had he retired in routine course Retired High Court Judge Justice M Chinnappa, who conducted a departmental inquiry , had found him guilty of flouting conduct rules and recommended the punishment.

The Centre, however, sat on the report forwarded by the state for about three years before taking a final call on this past week. The officer was due to retire this month end.

His misconduct involved instances of insubordination, making allegations against government functionaries without authority, recording and making public his official conversations with the chief secretary .
