CHENNAI: International Atomic Energy Agency would conduct a peer review of Indian nuclear safety regulatory system, which is expected by the end of this year or early next year, a top AERB official today said.

The international agency was conducting the review at India's request, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Secretary R Bhattacharya said in a statement, adding the review was expected to take place later this year or early next year.

"India has committed itself to host the Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) Peer Review Mission of IAEA and has already made a request to IAEA for a IRRS peer review mission in respect of nuclear power plants in India," he said.

AERB is also presently conducting a three-day IAEA seminar from today at Mumbai to prepare itself for the IRRS peer review mission, in which a three-member IAEA delegation is participating to conduct the National Self Assessment Seminar on IRRS.
