I-T raids on premises of K'taka MLA; Rs 2.6 cr seized

BANGALORE: The Income Tax department today conducted searches on the premises of JD (S) candidate A Krishnappa and seized Rs 2.6 crore, three days before the state goes to polls.

"Rs 2.6 crore has been seized from the premises of MLA A Krishnappa. He is contesting from the Hiryur Assembly constituency of the state. Further probe is on," a senior official said.

Krishnappa is a former minister and four time MLA. The searches were conducted on the basis of inputs received by an I-T team deployed on the instructions of the Election Commission to check illegal cash and inducements during the polls.

Krishnappa was not available for comment. The state goes to polls on May 5.
