NEW DELHI: Officers of the Indian Revenue Service, Income Tax cadre, have decided to donate one day's salary for flood relief efforts in Jammu and Kashmir.

The IRS cadre of the tax department has about 5,000 service members across the country who are tasked with the collection of direct taxes under the I-T, corporate tax and wealth tax categories.

"The Indian Revenue Service Association (All-India Body), which represents all IRS Officers of the Income Tax Department, has expressed solidarity and support for the disaster affected people of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

"The association has resolved that as per the resolution of Sept. 12, all IRS Officers shall contribute at least one day's salary towards disaster relief (in) Jammu and Kashmir," the association said in a statement here.

The body had made a similar gesture during last year's flash flood tragedy in Uttarakhand.

Floods triggered by incessant rain in Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of September has left more than 200 people dead and caused widespread damage to property and infrastructure in the state.
