I represent many Kovinds working hard to earn livelihood: President designate Ram Nath Kovind

NEW DELHI: President designate Ram Nath Kovind thanked all the citizens of the country today after getting elected as the 14th President of India.

"Personally, this is a very emotional moment. My election as president represents the greatness of Indian democracy," Ram Nath Kovind said in his first media address.

Recalling his humble origin, Kovind said: "My selection as the president of India is a message to all who are honest and fulfil their duties honestly."


"I represent many Kovinds in the country who work hard to earn livelihood," he said

"Thoughts of serving my country have brought me this far. My job will be to uphold and protect the Constitution," Kovind said.

Kovind also thanked and congratulated Opposition candidate Meira Kumar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Kovind.
