I have no plans to leave India, says Taslima
Controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, who returned to India from Sweden early this month, said she has no plans of leaving the country.
"I love this country (India). I want to be here with the people of this country. I have no plans to leave this country," she said against the backdrop of reports that she was thinking of going to Europe in view of security concerns here.
Asked whether her visa has been extended, the controversial 45-year-old Bangladeshi writer, who has been a target of Islamic fundamentalists, said "my visa has been extended by six months by the Government of India."
About her plans for Indian citizenship, she said "I believe in secularism and democratic tradition of this country. I am also hopeful that one day my appeal for permanent citizenship would be met."
Taslima had left India on March 18 for Sweden after she was kept in a safe place in New Delhi for more than four months.
