I had never set targets for myself : Tendulkar

MOHALI: Sachin Tendulkar remained humility personified despite becoming the highest run getter in Test cricket today and said his long journey has been about enjoying cricket and giving his best for the team.

"I feel good about reaching this milestone. Everbody had been asking me about this record and when I was going to reach here. Thankfully, today I have done that and I will be spared any more questions," the 35-year-old Tendulkar said in a 30-minute long media interaction after he surpassed West Indian batting legend Brian Lara's record of 11,953 runs.

On his 19-year long cricketing journey, Tendulkar said "it has been a fantastic journey. I have enjoyed every bit of it. It (the journey) has not been only about success, but there have been ups and downs. I have overcome obstacles".

"Success is a journey. Sometimes there are obstacles and stones thrown at you (taking a dig at critics), but you convert them into milestones" he said.

Asked if he had ever thought he would come this far when he started, he said that as a 16-year-old at the start of his career, he had not set any targets in his mind and even now he continued to play the same way, which is to enjoy his cricket.
