I did not kill Karkare, Kamte, Salasakar: Kasab

Ajmal Kasab said he didn’t kill any of the police officers.

MUMBAI: Continuing his I-did-nothing storyline, Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab on Monday said he didn’t kill any of the police officers — Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salasakar — on the night of 26/11 and that he was not even present at the CST that saw a major massacre.

“There is no question of me shooting at these top police officials as I was not present on the site,” he told the special court on Monday. Kasab said that he was not present at CST, Cama Hospital or even Girgaum Chowpati — where he was nabbed by police — during Mumbai attack, because he was already in police custody when the terror attack took place.

After the attack, he was taken out by Crime Branch officers in a police vehicle, and was shown the sites, he said. “They are police, they need an accused. So they framed me up,” he alleged.

As reported earlier, Kasab and his associate Abu Ismail had hijacked the Skoda car and sped off towards Girgaum Chowpatty where they were finally nabbed by a police patrol at a road block. But on Moday he claimed, it was all frame-up. When the court asked him how he received a bullet injury on his hand, Kasab alleged that when he was in custody, police gave him local anaesthesia in his hands, and shot him.

Earlier, when proceedings began in the court, he told Judge M L Tahaliyani that he was not feeling well, and requested that recording of his statement be adjourned. But the judge said that there would be no adjournment, though if Kasab did not want to say anything, he was free to do so.

In his first part of being in denial mode, Kasab last week had claimed that he had come to India 20 days before the terror attacks to seek role in Bollywood films and was not at all involved in the shootings. He also claimed that he was arrested three days before the 26/11 attacks and was forced to replace one of the dead terrorists whom he looked alike.
