NEW DELHI: Two members of the Cabinet Committee on Security home minister P Chidambaram and defence minister A K Antony — on Friday expressed concern over Pakistan’s attitude towards terror groups operating from its soil, stating that the neighbouring country was not doing enough to act against terrorists.
“I can’t change Pakistan’s attitude. I can only hope that international opinion, Indian pressure and India’s refusal to engage Pakistan in a dialogue, will force Pakistan to change its attitude,” Chidambaram said in a TV programme. Asked about Pakistan’s stand of not abandoning its policy on supporting terror groups post 26/11, he said: “We have said that always.”
Antony, on his part, said Pakistan was yet to “demonstrate” any will to take “speedy action” against terrorists and “international criminals” operating from its soil. “We have always strived for peaceful relations with all our neighbours.
Even with a vibrant democracy and a prospering economy, we cannot ignore the security calculus,” he said. “Our PM’s willingness to resume the dialogue with Pakistan must be seen in this context.
Pakistan must put an end to terror activities. However, the terror infrastructure on the ground remains intact — and is actually thriving,” he added.
