Hyper consumerism has spoiled world economy: M M Joshi
Murli Manohar Joshi said hyper consumerism of Western nations spoiled the world economy and cautioned India against following it.
Releasing the first issue of a research journal, 'Jigyasa', Joshi said, "Pashchim ke upbhoktawad ne duniya ko vinash ke kagar par la kar khada kar diya hai (the Western consumerism has pushed the world on the verge of destruction).
Joshi further said it was sad that India has been following the Western consumerism ever since Independence and has not been helpful for the country's economy.
Only the indigenous model of development could meet the challenges of our country, he added.
Joshi asked the country's leadership to prepare a road map of development based on Indian culture and ethos.
He also talked about the new concept of 'inclusive development' and questioned whether this term "has been coined to appease the minorities or it means development of all weaker sections of society".
Later participating in a debate on 'the verdict of the 15th Lok Sabha and the country's future,' Joshi said the verdict has roots of big change but they will "sprout only when it's real meaning is understood and people's wishes are fulfilled."
