SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference on Tuesday called for a protest march on Eid-ul-Azha to the United Nations office in Srinagar on September 13, to submit a memorandum to be 71st session of the UN’s General Assembly starting on the same day, and extended the call for strike till September 16.

The call came a day after the visit of the all-party delegation to the Valley. The detained separatist leaders had refused to meet the members of the delegation who went to meet them.

In Kashmir, the situation remained tense as the ongoing unrest entered the 60th day since eruption of violent protests against the death of militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with the armed forces.

Since then, 75 people have been killed and more than 7,000 injured across the Valley. “Those responsible for allowing and carrying out these brutalities and murders must be held accountable,” Nasir Aslam Wani, president of opposition National Conference for Kashmir said.

“Such killings have become a norm. People are being forced to come on roads,” he said.
