Scores of people participated in the 'Run for Unity' marathon here today, to mark the 63rd death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

CHENNAI: Scores of people participated in the 'Run for Unity' marathon here today, to mark the 63rd death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

An initiative of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the run was held at the Marina here and is being held simultaneously in 1,100 places across the country.

Party's national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, who was present among a host of local leaders including BJP state president Pon.Radhakrishnan, said the initiative is aimed at spreading the cause of the national unity.

Others present in the run were former Tamil Nadu DGP R Nataraj and Traders Association chief T Vellayan.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has announced setting up a 182 meter, world's "tallest" statue for Patel, seeking to collect iron for the statue from across the country.
