'Huge question mark over judiciary': CJP's Dipke on SC nod to FIRs against protesters

Mumbai: Days after the Supreme Court allowed state governments to register FIRs against protesters seeking Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the judiciary, saying there was a "huge question mark" over its ability to safeguard democracy in the country.

"Democracy in our country is under grave threat because there is a huge question mark over our judiciary. The CBI and ED are being used to break parties. We saw it in our state when the Shiv Sena and NCP were broken with the help of the two agencies. All institutions of democracy have remained silent. It was their job to keep democracy alive and ensure there was no autocracy of one man, but they have failed," Dipke said on Thursday.

Indicating that his fight with the BJP government was not over, Dipke said,"The entire country needs to come together."

The CJP leader criticised the BJP government for giving Pralhad Joshi additional charge of the Education Ministry following Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. "They have removed Pradhan and brought another person who welcomes and supports the rapists of Bilkis Bano. What kind of message are you sending? But what else can they do? Their entire party is filled with goons; they have Kuldeep Sengar. Under their government, Ram Rahim comes out on parole. This is a government that supports rapists," he said.

Dipke claimed that he and his family had been threatened by the BJP to join them. "They (BJP) had given me offers to join them, there were threats to me, there were threats to my parents. However, I have made it clear, I won't join them."
