HP introduces police patrol on NHs to control traffic

HP Government has introduced patrolling on all national highways in the state to control traffic, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal told the state assembly on Wednesday.


SHIMLA : Himachal Pradesh government has introduced patrolling on all national highways in the state to control traffic, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal told the state assembly here on Wednesday.

He said except for Chamba, which does not have any national highway, there was regular patrolling in all other districts in view of increasing traffic owning to tourism and industrialisation.

The state police has divided the entire length of 1,634 kms of NHs in the state into 47 beats in 11 districts to be covered by police patrols on motor cycles and vans, Dhumal said in reply to a starred question of Anil Kumar of the Congress.

The traffic wing of the state police has been reorganised and constituted into traffic, tourist and railway wing, Dhumal, who holds the portfolio of the Home department, said.

The strength of this wing has also been increased from 577 to 1,056 police personnel.

He said 110 police 'Sahayata Kaksh' (help rooms) have been established at entry points of the state and districts, bus stands to ensure smooth flow of traffic and render assistance to tourists, motorists and the public
