HP govt to extend mid-day meal cover in schools

The HP govt decided to extend the mid-day meal scheme cover to upper primary and middle levels in government and government-aided schools.

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh government today decided to extend the mid-day meal scheme cover to upper primary and middle levels in government and government-aided schools.

The decision taken at a meeting of the state Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will will come into effect from July one, an official release said.

The state cabinet also decided to introduce scholarship for OBC students from class one to 10.

It was also decided at the meeting to offer incentive to Excise and Taxation Department at the rate of one per cent in case of achievment being higher than the targets fixed for the current financial year 2008-9.

The HP cabinet also approved enhancement of monthly honorarium of the elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj Instituions by Rs 500 with effect from April one this year.

It also gave the go-ahead for the creation of Sainik Welfare Department to work effectively to protect the interests of the serving and ex-servicemen and monitor their suitable rehabilitation in public and private sectors.
