SHIMLA: To boost tourism, the Himachal Pradesh government will request the Centre to set up an international airport in the hill state and provide night landing facilities at the Shimla airport.

The state will raise these demands at a meeting of Tourism Secretaries to be held at New Delhi on January 18, Secretary Tourism, Manisha Nanda told the media on Monday.

She said the state government has already selected a site near Sundernagar for the international airport.

If the site is finally approved by the Aviation Ministry, a feasibility report will be prepared and submitted to the Airports Authority of India, Nanda said.

A few private companies are willing to start chopper services in the state which has, at present, 57 helipads, she said.
