How whitefield police wing can ensure order

The police recently said a new Whitefield police division will be formed. With hostels, paying guest accommodations, gated communities and apartment complexes, Whitefield's challenges are unique. Now, the region can get focussed attention in ensuring safety, maintaining law and order, and solving some of its traffic issues

'Do not Divert Staff to Other Tasks'

STEPS:

There must be allocation of human resources for the maintenance of law and or der, and for prevention and detection of crime without compromise. These staff must not be diverted to other tasks.

Use technology to the maximum effect in the detection of crime.

Traffic problems loom large in Whitefield. So, even though the newly formed division is not a traffic division, it is important for the police to work towards road safety and smooth flow of traffic.

There will be other problems that are specific. To understand this, set up a mechanism to attend to grievances of citizens on a regular basis.

Further, practising community policing will help realign police priorities with citizen priorities.

'Increase Surveillance via Cameras'

STEPS:

The residents are tech savvy. It will be helpful if the police are also accessible on social media and connect with communities on WhatsApp.

We already have a neighbourhood watch programme, where citizens are working with the police. This has be expanded and formalised.

Women's safety needs to be key focus area as there are a lot of working women and women in PGs. Increasing surveillance through CCTV cameras, and installing more lights will be helpful.

Create a platform where people feel empowered to report crimes or illegal activities without feeling threatened.

Need transparency in number and types of crimes reported and solved.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East, MB Boralingaiah said the reorganisation will be very helpful in easy administration, as well as in effective maintenance of law and order. “It will help in equitable distribution of resources across stations and improve accessibility to complainants,“ he said, adding that the change is bound to ensure more effective policing.
