NEW DELHI: Even as PM Modi initiated reach-out efforts, farmers’ unions toughened their stand and hoped that good sense would prevail upon the Modi government and it would withdraw the farm laws. The unions appealed to the people to beat utensils on December 27 during Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address “to drown the PM’s voice in the noise”.

After observing a ‘Remembrance Day’ on Sunday for nearly 30 farmers who have died during the agitation, farmers’ unions condemned Saturday’s income-tax raids on Punjab arhtiyas and commission agents and said they would sit on a dharna outside income-tax offices in Punjab in protest. Unions will start a 24-hour relay hunger strike at Singhu and other borders of Delhi from Monday, with 11 leaders observing fast daily. They will observe ‘Kisan Diwas’ on Wednesday and appealed to Indians living abroad to take out rallies for the cause of farmers in their countries.

Farmers’ groups have also appealed for boycott of ‘Fortune’ food products of Adani group.
