GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today urged the Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland to maintain people-to-people contact along the inter-state border to strengthen peace and harmony.

At a meeting convened by the Union Home Minister in New Delhi, Singh underscored the need for people-to-people contact between the neighbouring states for maintaining peace and harmony along the inter-state border, a CMO release said here.

The Union Home Minister urged both the Chief Ministers to find an amicable solution to the vexed border row.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Nagaland counterpart T R Zeliang agreed to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas, the release said.

On the boundary dispute, both the Chief Ministers agreed to abide by the directive of the Supreme Court.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Home and Political Department of both the States, it added.
