Home minister asked the Delhi police to be a model force assuring them with personnel and honour provided they serve the nation with integrity.

NEW DELHI:Asking the Delhi Police to become a model police force, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said the Central government will fully back its personnel and protect their honour if they serve people with dedication, sincerity and honesty.

Inaugurating a web application of Delhi Police for issue of police clearance certificate for getting passport, visa and other services, the Home Minister said the Central government wants the Delhi Police to become a model police force and the Delhi government a model state.

"If that happens, the whole country will emulate Delhi," he said at a function organised by the Delhi Police.

Maintaining that the country is facing a "crisis of credibility", Singh asked all Delhi Police personnel to take it as a challenge and serve people with dedication, sincerity and honesty to gain confidence and goodwill of people.

"If you can do that I am fully with you. Our government will standby you to protect your honour and prestige," he said.

Terming the fresh initiative of the Delhi Police as "confidence building measure, the Home Minister said one lakh people will be benefited every year by this new service.

"This reflects how sincerely the Delhi Police is serving the people," he said.

The Home Minister asked Delhi Police officials to ensure the honour of uniform with high quality of conduct and earn greater faith and confidence of the people through delivery of work.

Singh talked about the difficulties faced by people to obtain police clearance certificate (PCC) required for emigration, passport, employment etc., and said the new service will address the issue.

Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi explained different e-applications adopted by the Delhi Police in lodging of reports of lost items and a cell phone based application by the traffic unit of Delhi Police.

Bassi said due to the strict order to police stations to register FIRs in all complaints, the crime rates in different categories have increased upto 500 per cent.

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, Home Secretary Anil Goswami, Director, Intelligence Bureau Syed Asif Ibrahim, Chief Secretary of Delhi S K Shrivastava and other senior officials of Home Ministry and Delhi Police were also present on the occasion.
