Homage paid to Rajiv Gandhi on 17th death anniversary

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi led the state in paying homage to former Prime Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi, on his 17th death anniversary while senior Congress leaders paid tributes to the leader at the memorial at Sriperumbudur where he was assassinated in 1991.
Barnala administered the Anti-Terrorism Day pledge to the staff and officers of the Raj Bhavan here today which is observed as Anti-terrorism day, an official press release said.
At the state Secretariat, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi administered the pledge to State Government employees at the military Ground inside the Secretariat premises.
He also paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi. Homage were also paid to the late leader at his memorial in Sriperumbudur, located near Chennai, were Gandhi was assassinated on this day in 1991 by a suicide bomber of the outlawed LTTE.
Union Minister of state for Shipping and Road Transport, K H Muniyappa, AICC secretary K B Krishnamurthy, TNCC president M Krishnasamy and a host of Congress leaders paid tributes to their leader at the memorial by taking the pledge against terrorism on the occasion.
