Brijendra Singh who was an MP from Hisar, Haryana joined the Congress party on Sunday hours after quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party due to "compelling political reasons." The former BJP leader met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi with his father and former Union Minister Birender Singh.

After joining Congress, Brijendra Singh said, "...One issue that was raised in the rally in Jind on 2nd October was about the alliance of BJP-JJP in Haryana. A decision was taken regarding it and that too is a reason (for quitting BJP)."

"I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP, due to compelling political reasons. I extend gratitude to the party, National President Sh. JP Nadda, Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, & Sh Amit Shah for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Member of Parliament for Hisar," he said in a post on X.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the bureaucrat-turned-politician had defeated JJP's Dushyant Chautala and Bhavya Bishnoi, who was then with the Congress, to win Hisar Lok Sabha seat.
