Himanta Biswa Sarma blames Congress for delay in implementing Uniform Civil Code

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday blamed the Congress for the delay in granting women equal rights and implementing a Uniform Civil Code in India.

Speaking in Gujarat, Sarma said women should boycott the Congress, which he described as an “anti-development party”.

“Congress is the reason that women in the country have still not received equal rights. I believe women should completely boycott Congress. Therefore, whatever equal laws have not been implemented in our country till today, the root cause of that is Congress. Congress is an anti-development party. Congress is the reason that the country still does not have a Uniform Civil Code,” he said.


Sarma also said that labels such as Gen Z and Gen Alpha were not part of Indian culture.

“We have no connection with cultural divisions. Our duty is simply to work for the future and well-being of our sons and daughters. We should not divide our children by calling them Gen Z, Gen Alpha, or anything else. We have to live together, like one family, work hard for our children, and take the country forward,” he said.

He added that the country would face challenges but people must continue working towards national progress.

“Problems will arise in the country, but we have to face those problems and continue taking the nation forward. Our responsibility is to make the country stronger. Whoever we are, whatever our background may be, our collective responsibility is to strengthen the country and contribute to its progress,” Sarma said.

Manipur CM chairs security meeting after Kangpokpi killings

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level security meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal following the killing of four civilians on the IT Road in Kangpokpi district.

The meeting was held after the 15-day ultimatum issued by the chief minister on August 12 to surrender all illegal weapons.

The government condemned the killings and directed security officials to identify and take action against those responsible.

The meeting also decided to take strict action against anyone, irrespective of their community, found possessing illegal arms and weapons.

Cadres of outfits under the Suspension of Operations agreement or engaged in peace talks with the government will also face serious action if they carry weapons outside their designated camps.
