Himachal Pradesh, which became a full-fledged state only in 1971, first came into being as a centrally administered territory on April 15, 1948, by the integration of 30 erstwhile princely states. Though it was classified as a part ‘C’ state since 1950, it was made a Union Territory in 1956. Since 1993, the chief ministership has changed hands every five years between Virbhadra Singh ( Congress) and BJP’s Prem Kumar Dhumal. Here’s HP’s electoral history...
